Work Begins on I-25 North Express Lanes

Construction of the I-25 North Express Lanes from Johnstown to Fort Collins begins on Tuesday, Sept. 4, at 7 a.m., with the full closure of the East Frontage Rd between CO 392 and Crossroads Blvd. The Frontage Rd will be permanently closed and removed to support the expansion of I-25 and the addition of an Express Lane in each direction.

On Sunday, Sept. 9, at 9 p.m., crews begin construction on mainline I-25 between Crossroads Blvd and Kechter Rd near CO 392. Construction in this area will be performed in two phases, full-width northbound followed by full-width southbound. While most of the work will be done off the road, there will be a need for some nighttime lane closures.

Ongoing travel impacts include nighttime lane closures for setting barrier on both sides of I-25, grade preparation and temporary asphalt paving, and re-striping I-25 for required traffic shifts, including barrier removal.

Construction goals between CO 392 and Crossroads Blvd include: widening I-25 for additional Express Lanes; relocating utilities; erecting retaining wall under CO 392; and constructing three water-quality ponds with accompanying drainage facilities.
