Windsor to Hold Arbor Day 5K Run/Walk April 22

2015 Labor Day 5K 024-Cropped

The Town of Windsor Parks, Recreation & Culture Department and the Windsor Tree Board will hold the 12th Annual Arbor Day 5K Run/Walk at 8 a.m. Saturday, April 22, at Boardwalk Park.

Early bird registration is now open and will run through noon April 14 for $15. Race fees include a T-shirt; proceeds go toward planting trees in Windsor.

“Arbor Day is a nationally recognized celebration that encourages tree planting and care,” said Windsor Tree Board Chair Alison O’Connor. “The money we raise at the Arbor Day race will help fund more tree plantings in our Windsor community.”

There are three ways to pre-register for the Arbor Day 5K Run/Walk:

  • Online at windsorgov.com/ArborDay
  • In person at the Community Recreation Center, 250 N. 11th Street
  • By calling 970-674-3500

Day-of registration will begin at 7 a.m. and will cost $20, race T-shirt not guaranteed.

The family-friendly event includes prizes for top winners, including overall male (run); overall female (run); first, second and third-place walkers; first, second and third-place in each age bracket for male and female runners; and top dog.

At the event, the winners of the 2017 Arbor Day elementary school poster contest and middle school poetry contest will be showcased. Windsor students were asked to submit pieces on the theme “Trees Color Our Town.”

“The contests serve as a fun way for our kids to learn about trees and the benefits they provide our world,” O’Connor said.

The race is chipped and is a qualifier for the Bolder Boulder. Well-behaved dogs on a leash are welcome.

Race sponsors include The Windsor Gardener, Fort Collins Tree Care Inc., Poudre Pet and Feed, Guadalajara Family Mexican Restaurant, Davey Tree Expert Company, Fine Tree Service, and Lovable Little Ones.
