Windsor Residents Reminded of Winter Property Maintenance

Snow Blower

Windsor residents and business owners are responsible for shoveling sidewalks within 24 hours after a storm and for keeping all sidewalks free of snow and ice.

The Town of Windsor asks the community’s help in maximizing snow removal efforts by:

  • Piling snow in the grass. It is unlawful to shovel snow from driveways and sidewalks into the street or public right of way, typically five feet behind the curb. Do not pile snow on or around fire hydrants.
  • Clearing flow pans and gutters to help eliminate ice backups in storm drains.
  • Moving mail boxes. Residents living outside town limits should make their mail box snow worthy to prevent damage. The Town of Windsor assumes no responsibility for damage to mail boxes.
  • Parking vehicles in driveways. Remove vehicles from the street so that snow removal equipment can plow the area.
  • Trimming trees along public roads in order for snow removal equipment to get as close to the curb as possible.

“Our crews often work around the clock during snowstorms to clear the roads and apply de-icing material,” said Streets Supervisor Brian Rowe. “We greatly appreciate the community’s help in keeping our streets safe by clearing gutters and not piling snow in the street. Our snow crew has noticed a big difference in just one year, because of help from the community.”

If you see snow purposely moved into the street or sidewalks that haven’t been cleared within 24 hours, please call the Town of Windsor Code Enforcement team at 970-674-6400.
