Windsor Police to Cease Fingerprinting, Continues VIN Services

2018-08-30_Press Release_Loaf and Jug

The Windsor Police Department will no longer offer fingerprint card services to the public, effective Wednesday, Oct. 10. The department’s vehicle identification number verification service will remain unaffected. VIN services are offered 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Wednesdays and 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. on Fridays. The Police Department offers VIN services free-of-charge to residents. Non-residents are charged $15, cash or check only.

Based on 2017 legislation—specifically Senate Bill 17-189—the Colorado Bureau of Investigation recently implemented the Colorado Applicant Background Service. Under the new program, physical fingerprint cards such as the ones used by the Windsor Police Department are no longer acceptable. According to CBI’s Department of Public Safety, two vendors were selected to provide public fingerprinting services for background checks: IdentoGO and Colorado Fingerprinting. Both vendors maintain a list of locations, hours of operation, cost and other details for their services on their respective websites, however, Colorado Fingerprinting’s services will not be available until late October. Until then the closest authorized vendor is IdentoGO, located at 115 East Harmony Rd., Suite 210 in Fort Collins.

For more information about IdentoGO, visit identogo.com and for information about Colorado Fingerprinting, visit coloradofingerprinting.com. For additional details about the Town of Windsor’s VIN program, including a list of required paperwork, windsorgov.com/vehicle-identification.
