Highway 392 Widening Project

Work is scheduled to begin Tuesday, May 31 for the Highway 392 Widening Project. The roadway will be widened to four lanes between 17th Street and Colorado Boulevard. In addition, a 24-inch diameter waterline will be replaced along the southside of the roadway. Highway 392 will remain open throughout the project, but residents should be prepared for lane shifts and periodic lane closures with flagging. Widening work is expected to be complete by late September. Waterline replacement work is anticipated September through November, dependent on availability of pipe material.

Highway 392 is a primary town corridor and has seen an increase in traffic congestion in recent years. Work is intended to help alleviate congestion and improve safety. Thank you for your patience while work is underway on this important roadway improvement project.

HWY 392 UPDATE: There is a planned lane shift on Hwy 392 b/n Cty Rd 17 & Colorado Blvd starting Thursday, Aug. 4. Drivers are encouraged to slow down in construction zones and be aware of the new traffic pattern.

Hwy. 392 traffic control measures at Colorado Blvd. will remain in place through 7/26, not 7/18. Expect work to begin on the south leg of the highway in early August. Final completion for the widening of this section of highway is anticipated in the fall. Use of alternate routes is still encouraged.

On 7/12 & 7/18-7/20, the north half of the intersection of Colorado Blvd & Hwy 392 will be closed as well as the north leg of Colorado Blvd.  Lane shifts will be set up to keep eastbound and westbound traffic in one lane in each direction; the traffic signal will be adjusted to maximize turning movements and minimize backups as much as possible. The trail connection between the Kyger Reservoir & this intersection will be closed on these same dates. 

Between these dates, the intersection will be opened, but the driving surface will have a grooved surface. 


Alternative routes are strongly advised. Please consider using Harmony Rd., Jacoby Rd., New Liberty Rd. or Crossroads Boulevard as appropriate alternatives with east to west connections.
