WINDSOR, CO – To celebrate Windsor’s urban forest and keep town spaces green, the Windsor Tree Board and Town of Windsor Forestry are seeking volunteers to assist with planting trees at Village East Park, 865 Park Edge Cir. on Saturday, Oct. 22, from 9 am-12 pm. Take part in this family-friendly volunteer event, foster community stewardship, and work alongside the Tree Board and Forestry team.
The Tree Board and Forestry team manages trees in parks and public areas. As a part of the town’s succession plan, for every tree that is removed, a new tree will be planted in its place. Trees provide tremendous value to the community such as filtering air, reducing energy costs by providing shade and shelter from winds, and mitigating the effects of runoff among other environmental benefits.
“My first volunteer experience as a little girl was planting trees with my dad at a community event just like this one. Those trees are taller than me now,” said Volunteer Coordinator Madeline Cheek. “The volunteers that come to this event will be able to walk past these trees for years to come, watch them grow, and know that they made a difference.”
Due to the trees being quite large, all tree work will be completed by adults. Children older than six are welcome to participate, however, adult supervision is required. Other gardening tasks at the park will be assigned to children and those who are not helping with the trees. Refreshments, tools, and safety equipment will be provided. Closed-toe shoes are required at this event. Volunteers should also bring a water bottle and dress for the weather.
