[ARCHIVED] Windsor Lake Re-Opened

8/2/12 4:40 pm - The Town of Windsor, in cooperation with the Weld County Department of Public Health and Environment has determined that Windsor Lake is safe to reopen to the public. This includes the swim beach, boating and boat rentals. This decision was made after review of additional water sampling results and after considering guidance from the State Health Department who confirmed that water samples met testing requirements.

Ingestion of untreated agricultural water such as Windsor Lake carries an inherent risk of possible exposure to pathogenic organisms. Individuals who have been ill are asked to refrain from entering the water.

7/31/12 5:00pm - The Town of Windsor has received a report from the Weld County Health Department that test results of water samples taken from Windsor Lake on 7/30/12 are within normal limits, and they continue to investigate reported illnesses. There are no reported cases of E. coli illnesses.

As a precautionary measure, the Town has decided to continue to restrict all activities that pose possible water-body contact (swimming, boating) until at least Thursday at which time the situation will be re-evaluated. Please check back for further updates.

7/30/12 - The Town of Windsor has closed Windsor Lake until further notice. Located at 100 North 5th Street, this includes the swim beach at Boardwalk Park, motorized and non-motorized boating, and boat rentals.

The Weld County Health Department is actively investigating reports of illnesses from individuals who reportedly swam at the lake recently. However, at this time we are not aware of any reported illnesses from E. coli. Water samples were taken on July 27th at several locations and one site was reported back with a higher level of Escherichia coli (E. coli) bacteria. Follow up samples were taken on July 30th with results still pending. The Town will continue to work with the health department on testing and appropriate measures for re-opening the lake as soon as possible.
Please check back for announcements when the lake is re-opened.

Bacterial outbreaks of a variety of sources are possible in agricultural related bodies of water such as Windsor Lake.
