Colorado Mosquito Control began field inspections April 17th. To date, they have inspected 270 sites in the Town of Windsor and have eliminated an estimated 171.8 million mosquito larvae.
Trapping of adult mosquitoes will begin on June 6th in the areas of River Ridge, Bison Ridge, and River West. Spray applications are planned for the hours between dusk (8:30 p.m.) and dawn (6:00 a.m.). A schedule of the areas that will be sprayed can be found at Colorado Mosquito Control. Residents are encouraged to visit the website often for spray schedules and other mosquito information.
It is a good reminder for residents to take precautionary steps to protect themselves and their families.
- DRAIN standing water around your house weekly since that is where mosquitoes lay eggs, including tires, cans, flowerpots, clogged rain gutters, toys, and puddles.
- DUSK AND DAWN are when mosquitoes that carry the virus are most active, so limit outdoor activities or take precautions to prevent mosquito bites.
- DEET is an effective ingredient to look for in insect repellants. Always follow label instructions carefully.
- DRESS in long sleeves and pants during dawn and dusk or in areas where mosquitoes are active.
