The Town of Windsor has 5 snow plows and is responsible for 143 miles of road within the Town of Windsor. Crews are assigned depending on the amount of snowfall or level/priority of snow removal. Staff does their best in getting your streets open as promptly as possible.
To date (1/13/15) the Town has removed snow and ice from 3159 miles of road (which may include multiple passes on a 4 lane road for example), and laid down 391 tons of deicing material. Windsor’s snow plan addresses the Town’s priorities and responsibilities as well as the resident’s responsibilities. Below are some examples of the snow plan removal priorities. The entire snow plan can be found on the Town’s website www.windsorgov.com/snowplan.
*Priorities range from Priority I (trace to 3 inches) up to Priority IV (8 inches or more). All priorities include plowing all main arterials, and collector streets around schools, and having hills and emergency facilities treated with de-icing materials.
At Priority III (5 inches to 8 inches or higher and with wind causing blizzard conditions) and higher, residential streets, cul-de-sacs and alleys are plowed as resources allow. At Priority IV (8 inches or more) at the discretion of the Director of Public Works, contractors may be called to assist, and the Emergency Operations Center may be activated.

Sidewalks, Public Property and Trails
Windsor property owners and/or occupants, and businesses are responsible for clearing sidewalks free of snow and ice within twenty-four (24) hours after accumulation.
The Town is responsible for clearing sidewalks and parking lots at Town owned facilities such as Town Hall, police department and the Community Recreation Center (CRC). The Town will remove snow from park trails as resources allow.
Downtown Snow RemovalThe Downtown area (Main Street from 7th Street to 3rd Street from Walnut Street to Ash Street) is snow plowed from curb to curb at least once during a Page 2 of 2 snow event. Snow removal crews will make an attempt to plow curb to curb in the Downtown area between the hours of 3 a.m. and 5 a.m. when no parking is allowed in this area. Businesses in this area are encouraged to shovel snow from their sidewalks onto the street prior to the Town’s snow removal crews arriving. Snow removal crews will attempt to remove snow in a timely manner and as resources allow.
