[ARCHIVED] Outdoor Cat Spay/Neuter Project Expands to Windsor

Two Cats

Fort Collins Cat Rescue & Spay/Neuter Clinic has been working to curb cat overpopulation in Loveland with a targeted spay/neuter project, and it just received a grant from PetSmart Charities to expand the Community Cat Project to include the 80550 ZIP code.

The organization was awarded a $70,000, two-year grant to spay/neuter and vaccinate 1,400 free-roaming cats in the 80537 and 80538 ZIP codes between April 2015 and March 2017. To date, 710 outdoor cats in those areas have been altered for free, and the project is now being expanded to include cats in the 80550 ZIP code, which includes areas of Windsor and Severance.

Any unaltered cats that spend any time roaming outdoors in 80550, where they are at risk of siring or birthing unwanted litters of kittens, are eligible for free spay/neuter. A rabies vaccination is also provided free of charge at the time of surgery. Both owned and community/feral cats qualify.

Caretakers of larger cat colonies in Windsor or Severance, and residents feeding outdoor strays, are all strongly encouraged to contact Fort Collins Cat Rescue & Spay/Neuter Clinic for assistance. Cat owners should call the clinic to schedule an appointment at 970-484-1861, and colony caretakers who need help trapping should call the Community Cat Program manager at 970-658-5181.

James Christofferson, community cat manager for Fort Collins Cat Rescue & Spay/Neuter Clinic, said, “We are extremely excited to be able to expand and help cats in an even larger area, and we’re eager to get Windsor and Severance residents on board to help us find the hundreds of unaltered cats and kittens that we know are out there in the 80550 ZIP code."

More information about Fort Collins Cat Rescue & Spay/Neuter Clinic’s Community Cat Program can be found on its website at www.FCCRSNC.org. If you live in 80550, 80537 or 80538 and have an outdoor cat that needs spayed or neutered, please call 970-484-1861 for more information or to schedule an appointment. The clinic is located at 2321 E. Mulberry St. #9 in Fort Collins.
