[ARCHIVED] Windsor Police Release Preliminary Findings on HWY 257 Three-Car Accident

Police Cruiser

The Winsor Police Department responded to a three-vehicle traffic accident at approximately 3:25 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 16, at 30930 Highway 257 — the Poudre Trail pedestrian crossing.

The preliminary investigation indicates that a north-facing vehicle stopped at the pedestrian crossing for a bicyclist was struck from behind by another northbound vehicle. The collision caused the stopped vehicle to veer into oncoming southbound traffic, striking a southbound vehicle, and into the ditch along the West side of Highway 257.

The female driver from the stopped vehicle was transported to the Medical Center of the Rockies and later died.

The accident remains under investigation by the Windsor Police Department and the case will be screened with the Weld County District Attorney’s Office in the coming weeks to determine what, if any, charges will be filed. As an active investigation, no other information is being released at this time.

Anyone with information about this collision should contact Officer Josh Dunworth at 970-674-6400.
