The Windsor Police Department will provide dedicated hours for Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) verification and fingerprinting services, beginning May 1.
Staff will be available for VIN verification and fingerprinting:
- Mondays: 8-10 a.m.
- Wednesdays: 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.
- Fridays: 3-5 p.m.
Fingerprinting and VIN verification will be on a first-come, first-served basis. No appointments will be scheduled.
“Our new process offers residents a morning, lunch and afternoon option throughout the week,” said Administrative Lieutenant Craig Dodd. “By scheduling set times, we can ensure resources are readily available to assist our community members.”
The services will not be available on Town of Windsor holidays when administrative offices are closed.
The fees for these services have not changed. Fingerprinting services are free for Town of Windsor residents or those employed by an employer located in Windsor. Non-residents will be charged $15, cash or check only.

About VIN Verification
The State of Colorado requires a certified inspector or a law enforcement agency to inspect the VIN to ensure it matches the vehicle that is being registered and to verify that the number has not been altered or is not fictitious. VIN verification is usually requested when attempting to register a vehicle with an out-of-state title, if the vehicle was purchased outside of Colorado, or if the vehicle hasn’t been registered for long periods of time. For the verification process, please bring any official paperwork with the VIN — the title, previous registration, bill of sale, insurance card, etc.
About Fingerprinting
The Windsor Police Department provides residents fingerprinting services. Often, fingerprinting is requested by prospective employers as part of an employment background check. For instance, teachers and law enforcement personnel must submit fingerprints as part of the hiring process, to maintain professional certifications, or to secure access in and around areas that contain sensitive or confidential material. Please bring the fingerprint card and photo identification: driver’s license, Colorado ID, passport, etc. Plan not only for the time to complete the fingerprinting process, but also for sufficient time to complete the fingerprint card while at the Police Department.
