[ARCHIVED] Windsor Crossing Guard Struck by Moving Vehicle

Police Cruiser

A Windsor Police Department crossing guard stationed at Skyview Elementary School was struck by a moving vehicle this morning while in the crosswalk.

The driver was attempting to make a left turn at Pine Street and Stone Mountain Drive when the crossing guard was clipped by the vehicle’s side mirror, knocking the guard to the ground.

The crossing guard was transported to an area hospital for evaluation and was released with minor injuries.

The driver of the vehicle was cited for Careless Driving Resulting in Injuries.

“We can’t emphasize enough how important it is for drivers to be on the lookout for pedestrians at all times, especially in school zones,” said Chief of Police Richard Klimek. “I urge all drivers to slow down and be alert; nothing — text, phone, call, or meeting — is more important than the safety of our community.”
